Project cargo related engineering works

The main activity of the Marine Services department is related to Transport Engineering. For project cargo related problems, we offer a broad range of engineering solutions.

Transport manuals

Ever since the establishment of HMC the company has been supplying numerous transport companies with transport manuals. These manuals consist of a delicate study of critical elements during a transport of extraordinary project cargo. In concert with engineering departments of the transporting company, offshore contractor, owner and the builder of the structure, HMC produces a manual to transport the object including:

  • loading operation procedure (float on, lift on, roll on, skid on)
  • fastening, including sea fastening design
  • off-loading operation procedure (float-, lift-, roll-, skid off)
  • (de)commissioning procedure

HMC also provides on site support for preparing, loading, discharge and sea fastening of the vessel and cargo.

Bollard pull calculations

For towing operations, HMC provide transport companies with bollard pull calculations. Via HMC software we are able to efficiently revert a question for a bollard pull with a minimum of required information of the towed object. This enables HMC to quickly react to technical feasibility questions of towage companies in the tender phase of a project.

Warranty surveys

Besides pre-towage calculations, HMC also offers warranty survey services. Our warranty survey services consist of the following subjects:

  • pre- and post towage inspection
  • condition and suitability surveys of tugs / barges
  • on- and off-hire surveys
  • supervision during inclining tests
  • supervision and verification of bollard pull trials for towing vessels
  • issuing certificates of approval pertaining to surveys and inspections
  • representation of owners and insurance companies during towage, transport and salvage operations

Question based engineering works

Being a capable engineering company with roots in the offshore and shipping industry, HMC presents itself as an independent engineering firm. We supply customers with technical answers, calculations and designs to handle their problems. An interesting example is the relative stopping distance of a large FPSO to its tugs when one tug breaks down, including our suggestions as to what should be done if such a situation occurs. Our team of engineers is always prepared to analyze a customer’s problem and provide a satisfying answer.

HMC’s transport engineering software

To fulfill our customer’s extensive needs HMC created its own suite of software used to solve problems coming with transporting heavy and voluminous loads under the name of the Marine Services tool, or MS-tool. This suite of programs contains software made by HMC as well as software from other parties (such as SafeTrans), and forms the backbone of our Transport Engineering works.
